Tapered MDMA dosing
Recently, I decided to try the tapered dosing strategy described in MDMA Solo. This approach involves administering smaller booster doses of MDMA over several hours to ease the transition between states.
To deepen the experience, I took a small dose of magic mushrooms before the MDMA. My past experiences showed that combining MDMA with LSD or psilocybin produced more vibrant visuals. I chose the latter to avoid the double stimulation from LSD and MDMA.
Dosing strategy #
In total, I consumed half a gram of magic mushrooms and 300 mg of MDMA during the session. My dosage schedule was as follows:
| Time | Substance |
|---|---|
| 00:00 | 500 mg Psilocybe cubensis (as tea) |
| 01:20 | 120 mg MDMA |
| 02:40 | 60 mg MDMA |
| 04:00 | 50 mg MDMA |
| 05:20 | 40 mg MDMA |
| 06:40 | 30 mg MDMA |
Experience #
As with my previous sessions, I began in the morning to minimise sleep disruption. I had fasted for two hours prior, ensuring that my body was ready to fully absorb and react to the substances.
Upon taking the initial dose of Psilocybe cubensis, I felt a gentle onset of effects. Eighty minutes later, I took the first dose of MDMA. The psilocybin had already begun to create a mildly altered state of consciousness, which seamlessly blended with the MDMA’s effects.
The combination provided a powerful synergy, amplifying my introspective capacity and emotional openness. The psilocybin added a layer of depth to the experience, while the MDMA’s fear-reducing properties created a safe space for exploring even the most challenging memories and emotions.
The subsequent booster doses of MDMA, taken at regular intervals, sustained and enhanced the experience. Unlike my previous sessions, where I used a single booster dose, the tapered dosing provided a gentle, sustained ascent and a smoother comedown. This gradual approach allowed me to maintain a steady state of heightened awareness and emotional receptivity for an extended period.
Throughout the session, I didn’t find music to be particularly useful. Instead, I found great value in looking at old photographs. These images served as powerful catalysts for memories and emotions, providing rich material for introspection and healing.
The extended duration of the experience allowed for a deep and sustained exploration of my inner world. I produced many pages of handwritten notes. This process of documentation was therapeutic in itself, helping to solidify and integrate the insights gained during the session.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this session was the smoothness of the comedown. The tapered dosing strategy facilitated a gentle transition back to everyday consciousness, reducing the abruptness I often experience at the end of an MDMA journey.
