Making protein balls
·277 words·2 mins
Recently, one of my favourite cafés closed down, and I found myself missing their delicious protein balls. Determined to enjoy them again, I decided to try making them at home. To my surprise, it turned out to be quite simple!
Ingredients #
For 12 protein balls:
- 150 g fine oatmeal
- 120 g peanut butter
- 60 g protein powder (I used Optimum Nutrition French Vanilla Crème)
- 50 g chopped roasted hazelnuts
- 15 g unsweetened cocoa powder
- A pinch of salt
Preparation #
- Mix the dry ingredients. Start by combining the oatmeal, protein powder, chopped hazelnuts, cocoa powder, and salt in a bowl. Give them a good mix to ensure they’re well blended.
- Add the peanut butter. Next, stir in the peanut butter. Add a couple of teaspoons of water — just enough to reach a dough-like consistency.
- Roll into balls. Take the mixture and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball.
- Chill. Place the balls in the fridge and let them set for a couple of hours.
Variations #
Making these protein balls at home is not only easy but also allows for creative variations:
- If you’re a fan of chocolate, try using chocolate-flavoured protein powder for an extra cocoa kick.
- Experiment with different nuts and nut butters. For instance, almond butter with salted caramel protein powder (omitting the cocoa powder) is a personal favourite.
- These protein balls can easily be made vegan by opting for a vegan protein powder.
Nutritional information #
An average protein ball from this recipe contains approximately 160 kilocalories and 9.5 grams of protein. These values are estimates and can vary based on the specific ingredients used and the portion sizes.
